Self-Aligning Ball Bearings are ideal when the alignment of the shaft and housing is problematic and the shaft may bend. Self-aligning ball bearings are double row, self-retaining units comprising outer rings with a concave raceway, inner rings with a cylindrical or tapered bore and ball and cage assemblies. The bearings are available in open and sealed designs.
As with any bearing self aligning bearings may need occasional lubrication however many are self lubrication dependent upon its construction.
Many bearing manufacturers will work with the customers to expand the misalignment capabilities of self-aligning bearings when possible. Additionally, it is possible to use various materials for self lubrication features or increase load and speed capacities through ball selection or other features.
