Standard and Precision Cylindrical Roller bearings utilize a cylindrical roller whereas a ball bearing utilizes a spherical ball as the main rolling element. Cylindrical roller bearings may have a single or multiple row rolling element set. In contrast to the ball, the roller has a larger contact area perpendicular to the roller axis. Cylindrical rollers can transmit higher forces will have greater rigidity and will be smaller due to the rolling element diameters under the same load as a ball bearing.
Standard Cylindrical roller bearings are used in applications like industrial gearboxes, gear-boxes in wind turbines or machines for mining equipment. In these applications, high load carry capacity is particularly important.
